If you’ve been dreaming about an intimate, meaningful elopement in Atlanta but still want something that feels elevated—let me introduce you to Chris & Judy’s Georgia State Capitol elopement.

Celebrating Chris & Judy During Their Georgia State Capitol Elopement

These two came to me through an old coworker from my nurse-tech days at Kennestone Hospital (life is wild), and from the very first message, I knew their vision was simple:
Sweet. Intentional. Uncomplicated.

The kind of day that’s truly about the two of them.

They brought their sweet pup Koda, wore a locket with their late dog Oreo close to their hearts, and had their best friend officiate their ceremony.

Yes—we left Judy’s bouquet at home.

And yes—Chris had to sprint back to the car because Judy forgot her ID and you can’t get inside the Capitol without one. (Worth noting before your own elopement… trust me!)

But honestly? Those little things made their day feel even more “them.”

We spent the morning wandering the beautiful floors of the Georgia State Capitol, laughing our way through portraits, and soaking in the calm that only weekday elopements can bring. And the best part?

Eloping at the Georgia State Capitol is FREE and one of the most luxurious-feeling locations for an intimate Atlanta ceremony.

Let’s talk about how you can do the same.

How to Elope at the Georgia State Capitol (Step-by-Step)

If you’ve been dreaming of an engagement session or intimate elopement at the Georgia State Capitol, there are new regulations you’ll want to be aware of before planning your day.

While the Capitol is still an incredibly beautiful option, photography access is now much more limited than in years past and advance planning is essential.

Here’s everything you need to know:

1. Reservation is required.

Gone are the days of simply showing up with a photographer. Any photography session or small event must have a confirmed reservation in advance.

Photography is not allowed during legislative sessions. Because of this, no sessions are permitted from January 1 through the end of the Regular Legislative Session (typically January–April), or during any Special Session.

You can check out the availability using this link.

2. Planning ahead is important.

Outside of session dates, time windows are extremely limited. According to updates as of January 2026, photography is generally restricted to:

  • Mondays: 7:00–8:00 AM
  • Wednesdays: 4:00–5:00 PM
  • South Wing only

The space itself is still free, but these tight windows mean your planning (and photographer choice) matters more than ever.

3. Bring a government-issued ID.

Security is strict on this. One of you forgetting it = a cardio session back to the car.
(Looking at you, Chris. You were a champ.)

4. Security is genuinely kind and helpful.

They’ve seen tons of elopements and are always happy to help you navigate.

Once you’re inside, the building becomes your playground—marble staircases, tall columns, glowing light, skylit rotunda… It’s a dream!

How to Plan a Georgia State Capitol Elopement Under the New Rules

If the Capitol is high on your wishlist, here’s my best tips for how to approach it strategically:

1. Check official sources first.

Always confirm the most current guidelines through the Georgia Building Authority or the UGA Libraries Capitol Museum before locking in a date.

2. Book as early as possible.

With very limited availability, reservations should be made months in advance, especially for spring or fall.

3. Build in a backup plan.

Legislative schedules can shift. Having an alternative Atlanta location in mind ensures your day stays stress-free if access changes.

4. Work with a photographer who understands these constraints.

These narrow windows require efficiency, familiarity with the building, and a calm approach—especially for elopements.

What This Means for Your Elopement

If the Georgia State Capitol is on your heart, planning for late spring through fall will give you the best chance of availability. And while the new rules require more coordination, the result can still be a beautifully intimate, elevated experience when done thoughtfully.

If you’re considering a Capitol elopement or want help finding alternative Atlanta locations that offer the same timeless, architectural feel—I’m always happy to help you navigate timing, logistics, and backup options

Reach out early if this space is part of your vision, and we’ll make a plan that feels intentional, calm, and completely you.

Why the Georgia State Capitol Is Perfect for Intimate, Elevated Elopements

A “quick” elopement does not mean it can’t feel luxurious. The Capitol delivers editorial-level backdrops without needing a huge guest list or a giant budget. The building truly shows off for you!

Here’s why couples love it:

  • Stunning architecture (white marble, historic staircases, gold dome)
  • Soft, naturally diffused lighting perfect for documentary-style portraits
  • Quiet weekday atmosphere → privacy + space to explore
  • Romantic but not stuffy
  • Perfect for couples who want candid, story-driven photos

If you’re deciding between a Georgia State Capitol elopement and an Atlanta City Hall elopement, here’s a quick breakdown:

Atlanta City HallGeorgia State Capitol
Fast, easy, very simpleStill easy but more elevated

Feels more transactionalFeels intentional + ceremonial
PracticalRomantic + iconic

If your vision leans toward “simple but stunning,” the State Capitol is the better fit.

How Chris & Judy Made Their Georgia State Capitol Elopement Personal

One of the reasons their elopement felt so emotionally rich?
They brought personal touches that mattered:

  • Their dog Koda, front and center
  • A locket holding Oreo, their late sweet pup
  • A close friend officiating
  • No pressure, no audience—just meaningful vows
  • Exploring the building slowly, soaking in the moment

Even without a bouquet, their day was full of intention and heart. Remember: luxury isn’t about stuff—it’s about experience.

What Your Georgia State Capitol Elopement Photos Will Look Like
